Numerical Model Validation for Mengkulang Glulam Timber Bolt Withdrawal Capacity

چکیده
The adequacy of timber joints determines how much load it can sustain, commonly called load-carrying capacity. European Yield Model (EYM), also known as Johansen yield theory, has been widely adopted in the design for predicting In EC5, pulling out capacity is 'rope effect' and becomes one parameter that governs a dowel-type connection. Due to high cost preparing specimen, computer modelling always alternative measuring connections. However, results need be validated with experimental laboratory test before being extended different sizes materials fasteners. This study presents finite element method (FEM) numerical analysis validate performance timber's 12mm, 16mm, 20mm bolt withdrawal Abaqus 6.14.4 software package create four (4) FEM models consisting inserted into glulam block at insertion depth, parallel perpendicular grain direction. axially was subjected pull-out force while held position. mild steel tropical Mengkulang blocks were used. validation showed an acceptable agreement between results.

Portable Glulam Timber Bridge Design for Low-Volume Forest Roads
Improved stream crossings are needed to reduce construction and maintenance costs and reduce the environmental impacts from low-volume forest roads and skid trails. New designs of timber bridges are cost-effective alternatives for portable stream crossing structures. This paper discusses design criteria for portable timber bridges and presents one design for a portable, longitudinal glued-lamin...
متن کاملPortable T-Section Glulam Timber Bridge Modules: Modeling and Performance
This report describes the design, modeling, and testing of two portable timber bridges, each consisting of two non-interconnected longitudinal glued-laminated timber (glulam) deck panel modules 1.8 m (6 ft) wide. One bridge is 12.2 m (40 ft) long while the other bridge is 10.7 m (35 ft) long. The modules are fabricated in a double-tee cross section. Before fabrication of the modules, researcher...
متن کاملExperimental and Numerical Investigation of Timber Structures for the Validation of an Orthotropic Plasticity Model
Although wood is used as a favourite building material among concrete and steel, the mechanical behaviour was not scientifically investigated yet as one would expect. To be able to perform more realistic simulations of timber structures by means of modern numerical simulation methods like the Finite Element Method (FEM), a suitable constitutive material model is required. Such a material model ...
متن کاملNumerical Analysis of the Bending Properties of Cathay Poplar Glulam
This paper presents the formulae and finite element analysis models for predicting the Modulus of Elastic (MOE) and Modulus of Rupture (MOR) of Cathay poplar finger-jointed glulam. The formula of the MOE predicts the MOE of Cathay poplar glulam glued with one-component polyurethane precisely. Three formulae are used to predict the MOR, and Equation (12) predicts the MOR of Cathay poplar glulam ...

This paper presents numerical modeling technique for Dhajji-Dewari structures (timber-braced rubble stone masonry), and its application for the evaluation of in-plane force-deformation capacity of Dhajji wall panels of different configuration of bracings. Dhajji structures are mainly composed of vertical and horizontal timber posts and braced using diagonal bracings and horizontal studs. Wall o...
